Arc Ecology Names Recipient of "Regulator of the Year" Award

December 19, 2003: Arc Ecology has begun an annual award program to honor public servants who make a substantial difference on behalf of the communities they serve. In December 2003 Arc Ecology named Mr. Chein Kao of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control as the recipient of the Regulator of the Year award. The award was given in recognition of Mr. Kao's dedicated service to public environmental health and his work in advising the U.S. Navy and the community on the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco.

The safety and well being of the public and the nation are dependent upon the diligence of our public servants. This trust is as basic to the security of democracy as the vote because if government cannot be relied upon to faithfully execute the will of the people, democracy becomes a sham. For diligence in the execution of this trust concerning the toxic cleanup of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, Arc Ecology and the Community Window on the Shipyard Cleanup Project gratefully award
