San Francisco National: |
Today
the United States military produces more hazardous waste annually than the
five largest international chemical companies combined. Restoring environmental
quality, habitats, wetlands and providing disadvantaged communities & communities
of color with toxicological & environmental cleanup technical support is
the focus of this Arc Ecology program. |
When
military bases close, it takes years for the economies of the communities
surrounding these facilities to recover. Arc Ecology work economics program
focuses on affordable housing, jobs for disadvantaged communities, investments
in community benefits, business ownership opportunities for poor communities,
and novel industrial development strategies for Brownfields. |
|
| Justice | Education | |
Although
Arc Ecology's campaigns benefit all people, over the last twenty years we've
focused on those communities now called Environmental Justice Communities.
Through our Environmental & Social Justice programs, Arc Ecology provides
political, organizing, scientific and economic resources to empower people
in the decision-making impacting their futures. |
As
governmental decisions become more complex, people need a source of accurate
and reliable information to make sound decisions. Arc Ecology's educational
programs focus on the US military, public resource management, community
development, & making governmental process serve the public. We feel that
the Freedom of Information is critical to our society and to public participation. |
|
| Democracy & Public Partnership | Socially Responsible Globalism | |
Arc
Ecology helps underserved communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and
beyond gain a voice in the governmental decision-making. Arc Ecology provides
support to Restoration Advisory Boards (RABs) and other community advisory
boards to ensure the public's voice is heard. |
As
the sole remaining Superpower, the United States should be leading the way
to found a new socially responsible form of Globalism. Instead, abandoned
toxic contamination from America's overseas military bases threatens the
health of people around the world. Arc Ecology works in the Philippines,
Okinawa, and other countries to help communities address the impacts of
our overseas bases. |
|
| War & the Environment | Ask Arc Ecology a Question | |
War
is rapidly becoming one the greatest threats to the quality of the World's
environment. Arc Ecology was one of the first NonGovernmental Organizations
(NGOs) to address the environmental, human & political impacts of wars.
Arc Ecology's first pre-war assessment "Hidden Casualties Volume 1" helped
promote a vigorous debate over the potential environmental affects of Operation
Desert Storm. |
