Bayview Clearinghouse on Shipyard Cleanup Opens
November 6, 2003: The Community Window on the Hunters Point Shipyard Cleanup recently relocated and opened office at 4634 Third Street in San Francisco. Come see the educational displays and meet the people who are working with you to ensure that the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard meets your goals for health, safety and environmental protection.
The Community Window on the Hunters Point Shipyard is an information clearinghouse funded by the San Francisco Department of the Environment. This project is dedicated to empowering the Bayview community as well as other residents of the City with the information and resources needed to become meaningfully involved in the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard superfund site.
The Community Window provides information to the local community about the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard through a web site, resource library, informational workshops, presentations at community organizations, access to staff scientists, and more. The office has audio-visual and computer resources available for public use, a library of documents about the Hunters Point Shipyard cleanup, and educational displays about the Shipyard and the cleanup process.
The recently relocated Information Center at 4634 Third Street in San Francisco is now open! Come see the displays and meet the people who are working with you to ensure that the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard meets your goals for health, safety and environmental protection. The office is open from 3PM-6PM on Mondays and from 10AM-6PM Tuesday-Thursday and is staffed by one of Arc Ecology’s environmental scientists as well as our Outreach Coordinator.
Through the Community Window on the Shipyard project, Bayview neighborhood and San Francisco residents will be able to:
1. learn about upcoming decisions on the cleanup of the Shipyard that you can participate in;
2. participate in community educational workshops;
3. access a calendar of meetings regarding the cleanup of the Shipyard that are open to the public;
4. get access to a library of information;
5. utilize our website to learn about the Shipyard, the Shipyard's cleanup process, military pollution, and obtain links to on-line resources to help you become better informed about the cleanup;
6. call a toll free hotline to have your questions answered about the cleanup of the Shipyard;
7. take our interpretive tour of the Shipyard;
8. and much, much more.
Our aim is to ensure that you, the public, have the support you need to express your concerns and your interests in the cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard.
