The
City of San Francisco is currently negotiating over the deposition
of the property of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard
The Redevelopment Agency will control the development process with
Lennar being chosen to become the master developer. Arc Ecology conducted
a focus group to vet the terms of conveyance from a community perspective,
so the resulting document would support the interests of the Bayview
Hunters Point community. This was the first process of its kind in
the country, in which Arc worked with the Mayor's office, the Office
of Economic Development, the City Attorney's Office and the Supervisor
representing the district.
These parties meet bi-weekly to discuss and plan the transfer of
the property. Community members have assumed the highest level of
public involvement in this approval process.
In March of 2003,
Arc Ecology released The Hunters Point
Naval Shipyard Conveyance Agreement:
A Summary from a Community Perspective. This
summary was prepared by Eve Bach of our staff to assist community
members, elected officials, and other interested members of the public
in their understanding of the pros and cons of the proposed Conveyance
Agreement that the City and the Navy have drafted. The full text
of the Agreement is available on our web site. It can also be obtained
from Bayview-Hunters Point Advocates at (415) 671-2862, or from the
Mayor’s Office of Business and Economic Development at (415) 554-6969.
